May 1 – We Are Open. The boating season has officially arrived at Lakefront. Many of you already have your boats in the water and have been out fishing or heading to the islands. The rack building and the gas dock have been open during our regular hours the past couple of weeks. They will both be open for extended weekend hours beginning May 1. Both will be open Friday and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. They will be open Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. We will extend the hours again beginning Memorial Day weekend. The bathrooms and showers are also open, and have been for a couple of weeks. Welcome back to Lakefront.
Dredging. Due to the very windy conditions and the rough lake waters, the dredging schedule has been extended. We have not yet been dredged. The channel currently has about 3 – 3 ½ feet of water. We will be dredged as soon as the conditions allow them to come across the lake. Once finished we will have 8 – 9 feet of water in the channel. Many boats have been out already. Know your draft and just be careful until we can get dredged. Hopefully they will be here in less than a week.
Launch and Service. If you have not made arrangements to get launched, you should do so quickly. We will try to accommodate everyone with their requested launch dates, but our schedule is pretty full, so don’t wait. If your boat needs service prior to launching, get that scheduled quickly as well. The service schedule is extremely full. Again, we will try to accommodate everyone as best we can, but your service may be pushed back a little at this point. Thanks for the business. Call Michelle in service to schedule your launch or any work.
Maintenance. If you have any maintenance issues, let us know. Steve has a page and a half of items he is currently addressing. We will get to your issues as quickly as possible. You will notice blue docks when you come to the marina. Those are docks we repaired over the winter. Our intention is to eventually paint all the metal docks that blue color. That is a project that will take most of this summer and probably the winter to accomplish. The blue looks nice and we want all the docks to look the same.
Ohio Boater Education Course. The Lakefront Yacht Club and the marina are sponsoring the ODNR OBEC course Saturday, May 30. Anyone born after 1982 is required to take such a course to operate a boat. The cost is simply $5 and lunch will be provided. The course runs from 8 AM until 5 PM. You can reserve your space by calling the marina front office and signing up. This is open to the public and has a limit of 30 people.
Lakefront Race Night. Our annual Night at the Races is Saturday, May 23. Dinner will begin at 6 PM with happy hour at 5 PM. Racing starts at 7 PM. Please sign up in the front office. You can purchase a horse for $5. Your horse will then be announced as the racing begins. You will be able to wager on each race. Wagers are limited to $2. We will have daily doubles, perfectas, and trifectas. You will get your picture taken should your steed win. We will have mint julips available. I hope to see you there.
